Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
LoveStep (the "App") is an AI coaching app that gives advice on how to move a relationship forward, based on your chats and situation. Because it handles conversations you would not want others to see, we explain what we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it — including the exceptions.
On first launch, the App asks you to explicitly agree, with a checkbox that starts unchecked, to this Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use, and the processing by AI (sending data to Google) before any AI feature can be used.
The most important principles
- The chats, screenshots, notes and questions you send are used only for the AI to create diagnoses and advice, and are not stored on the App's servers.
- On Google's side (Vertex AI), which performs the processing, storage, caching and logging are turned off. Your data is not used to train AI.
- The only exception: only if Google's automated safety systems detect suspected abuse (a policy violation), the relevant content may be retained on Google's side for up to 30 days solely for that review. Even then it is not used to train AI.
- Your cases (records per person), loaded materials, diagnoses, plans, coaching history and coach notes are stored only on your device.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you enter or select
- Profile: age group (required), gender (optional), the coach's tone.
- Case information: the other person's nickname, their age group, your goal, relationship stage, where you met, and your answers to the intake questions. The nickname is used only on your device and is never sent to our servers or to the AI.
- Materials: chat export files, screenshots, written notes, and the other person's profile (including when read from a screenshot).
- Coaching and pre-send checks: what you ask the coach, screenshots you attach, and drafts you want checked.
- Inquiries: what you write in the contact form, your email address if you want a reply (optional), and your Support ID. Used only to respond to you.
Chats and screenshots include messages and names of people other than you. The App processes them only for your own consultation and does not store or share them. Please also respect the other person's privacy when using the App.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Device identifier: a random identifier the App creates for each device, used to manage your plan, usage counts, and consent records. It is not linked to your name, email address or phone number. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and do not track you for advertising.
- Usage data (Firebase Analytics): screens viewed, feature usage counts, error types, plan type, etc. We never send the content of chats, notes, questions, or anything you type freely. Age group and gender are sent only after you agree to sending data to AI. You can turn this off in Settings at any time.
- Crash data (Firebase Crashlytics): technical information when the App crashes. It never contains conversation content.
- Purchase information (Apple): transaction information needed to confirm subscriptions (transaction ID, plan, expiration). Payment details never reach us.
- Age category (Apple): in regions where the law requires it, the App receives your age category (for example, whether you are 18 or older) through Apple's Declared Age Range feature and uses it on your device only to determine eligibility and protections for minors. It is not stored on our servers.
- App download transaction ID (Apple): the identifier Apple assigns to each download of the App (appTransactionId) is stored with your device record on our servers. It is used only to find and delete that device record when Apple notifies us that a parent or guardian has withdrawn consent, in regions where the law requires it. It is not linked to your name, email address or similar details.
- IP address: only to prevent abusive mass sign-ups of new devices, the IP address used at sign-up (for IPv6, the network part) is stored on our servers for one hour. It is not written to logs.
2. How we use information
- To provide the AI coaching features: diagnosis, action plans, coaching, pre-send checks and screenshot reading
- To manage your plan and usage counts
- To improve the App and fix bugs (usage and crash data)
- For safety (for example, showing help resources when there are signs of serious danger)
- To comply with the law
3. AI processing and data flow
- When you start a diagnosis, coaching, etc., the needed materials (excerpts of chats, screenshots, notes, intake answers, summaries of the diagnosis and plan on your device, and coach notes) are sent to the App's server over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
- The server does not store the content and relays it directly to Google's AI (Vertex AI). There is no mechanism to store conversations or images, and the content is not written to server logs.
- Only the results created by the AI return to your device and are stored there.
The App's servers run on Cloudflare's services (content is never stored).
4. Data stored on our servers
| Data | Contents | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Device record | Device identifier, creation date, date and version of the Terms you agreed to, app download transaction ID | As long as needed to provide the service |
| Plan status | Plan type, expiration, information of the confirmed transaction | Deleted automatically after expiration |
| Usage counts | Usage count per feature (counted per device on the free plan, and per subscription on paid plans, shared by that subscription's devices) | Deleted automatically after the counting period |
| Subscription–device link | Which device identifiers a subscription's transaction ID is used on (one subscription can be used on up to five devices at the same time) | One year after the last check |
| Sign-up counts | Number of new device sign-ups per IP address (to prevent abuse) | One hour |
Conversations, images, notes, questions, drafts and diagnosis results are not stored on our servers.
5. Sharing with third parties
| Recipient | Purpose and data |
|---|---|
| Google (Vertex AI) | For AI diagnosis, advice and reading: the materials in Section 3, plus age group, gender (if set) and tone |
| Google (Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics) | For usage analytics and bug fixing: the information in Section 1.2 |
| Cloudflare | Infrastructure for our servers and website |
| Google (Google Forms) | Receiving inquiries |
| Apple | App Store payments, subscription confirmation, age category, notices that a parent or guardian withdrew consent |
These recipients provide the same or greater protection of data as described in this Policy. Otherwise, we share information only with your consent or when disclosure is required by law.
6. Processing outside your country
The App is operated from Japan. Google (Vertex AI), which performs AI processing, and Cloudflare, our server infrastructure, use data centers around the world, so the content you send may be processed outside your country. All communication is encrypted (HTTPS).
7. Retention and deletion
- Data on your device (cases, materials, diagnoses, plans, coaching history, coach notes, profile) can be deleted at any time in Settings → Data → Delete all data. Deleted data cannot be restored.
- Coach notes can be reviewed, edited and deleted one by one on each case's "Coach notes" screen. You can also stop the coach from keeping notes in Settings.
- Deleting the App also deletes the data on your device.
- To have your device record deleted from our servers, contact us with the Support ID shown in the App's Settings.
8. Withdrawing consent and your rights
- Consent to send data to AI: you can withdraw it in Settings at any time. AI features will then be unavailable.
- Usage data: you can turn it off in Settings at any time.
- Access, correction and deletion: you can change your profile in Settings. For server records, contact us as described in Section 7.
9. Age
The App is intended for people aged 16 and older. People under 16 may not use the App, and we do not knowingly collect information from people under 16. For users under 18, the advice includes additional safety considerations. In regions where the law requires it, if a parent or guardian withdraws consent, we delete the device record on our servers.
10. Security
Communication is encrypted, and the App is designed not to store conversation content on servers. Data on your device is protected by iOS data protection.
11. Changes
If we change this Policy, we will announce important changes in the App or on this page.
12. Contact
For questions, requests or complaints about privacy, please use the contact form. We will also promptly answer questions about matters required by law, such as the name and address of the business operator.
